With the fall approaching, consider setting up your worm bin today so that you have learned how to manage your bin before taking it indoors in winter. Red worms are not native to Toronto and will not survive well outdoors during our winter.
Worm bins can be easily managed inside so that they don’t smell or attract pests, but it’s always good to be able to practice your new skills while the bin can still be managed outside.
A worm bin can usually be kept outside until October or early November, but after this it’s better to take it inside to your basement or kitchen. (Even a garage or shed will be much warmer than the outdoors and make great places for worm composting bins.)
